We've still got a way to go, but as you can see John McDonald from Handmade is installing some beautiful birch cabinetry and I'm listening to our appliances being put in place as I write this. My dream of not having to go out to the refrigerator in the garage for my breakfast will soon be a reality! Stay tuned for more photos and a wrap up of our kitchen project. It will be finished by December 24th and we're excited to whip up a celebratory breakfast on Christmas morning!

The Roxie Rancho Project: Kitchen Preview
We've experienced major victories and minor defeats over the last month as we've begun our Cliff May renovation. Well, this week we are closing in on a major accomplishment: Our new kitchen! It's been crazy busy this week with electricians, plumbers, cabinet makers, delivery people and appliance installers buzzing in and out. So, the big question is, how is it coming along? Well, here is a preview:

Project Update
Okay, so I've been crazy busy the last few days and have so much to catch you up on. There's plenty of great new products, events, and inspiration still to come this week, but first I want to share the major progress that was made on the Eichler office install last week. All the custom cabinetry is finished! More photos to come soon, but here's a sneak peek.
Thanks to John and Ivan from Handmade for their wonderful work and impeccable attention to detail. Now it's time to add the final touches to this space. Some classic mid-century touches with some modern accessories and art will finish it off and then we can move onto the living room, so that the clients have a place to hold that holiday soiree that they are planning!

Eichler Office Preview
I had my final meeting with Handmade this weekend and the custom cabinetry is set to be installed next week in the Eichler home I've been working on in Orange County. Here's a peek at the plans!

A matte white lacquer will be used for a majority of the cabinetry with walnut drawer fronts and shelves.
A custom coffee station will house a built-in espresso maker, while a large, comfortable storage bench allows for a relaxing space to sip your caffeine and read a book or magazine. A cabinet to the right of the bench has doors that pocket to allow easy access to the printer.
The design includes a really unique sliding bookcase that acts as a room divider for when extra privacy is needed. Above is the open view and below is shows the bookcase in the closed position.

Castors on the movable bookcase are concealed with a skirt. The walnut shelves and storage cubes appear to float within the lacquered white frames.
The install has begun! Our feature wall is painted and the space is waiting for the rest of the magic to happen. You might remember this post when I shared the transformation of this home from beige and boring to a cool new color palette. Well, we used the same accent color from the fireplace as the color for our feature wall. Want to pick up a gallon of this color for yourself? Dunn Edwards 'Thundercloud' (DE5774)
I'll keep you posted on the progress next Friday after the cabinetry has been installed.

Handmade

I'm thrilled to currently be working with the talented duo of John McDonald and Ivan Sokolov from Handmade, a custom furniture and cabinetry company right here in Los Angeles. There's not a single element of this project that's not customized for the space, so they have their work cut out for them, but it's going to be totally stunning when it's finished! Stay tuned for photos on the results. In the mean time, check out these other examples of their work:
I took the photo above and it was featured in my recap of CA Boom 2008. There are many great features showcased here, from the upper sliding doors to the cookbook niches.
The following photos are all from Handmade's website:
