New Arrivals From Ferm Living!

There's an exclamation in the title for a reason. I don't think I've been this excited about a pillow in my life! (Given my affection for textiles, that's really saying something...) I spotted the Peacock pillow in the Ferm Living catalog what feels like a century ago, but it was not available in the U.S. until now. Also available in rose, it has a silk cover with 100% down fill and behold the bold blue and yellow combo contrasted with a white background and that black piping! Other new goodies available stateside are fresh kitchen textiles, ceramic designs, and a new line of children's products. For all the latest Ferm Living designs, check out the U.S. shop.

Ferm Living Mixes It Up

I ventured over to the Ferm Living site after mentioning them in yesterday's post and guess what? This fall, those crazy Danes will be injecting more pattern into our lives!  Two new collections will soon be available.

The first, simply titled, "A Very Special Collection" uses a technique called surface printing that dates back to the late 1800's.  This technique allows for the four new designs to have a hand-painted quality, as if the pattern had been stenciled onto the paper.  I love to see companies bring back old ways of manufacturing and not simply rely on new technology.  As proven with this collection, there are unique results that can only be achieved through old-fashioned processes such as this and I'm thrilled to see the designers at Ferm Living using their expertise to keep the technique alive!

For the other new collection, they really wanted to bring something young and fresh into the mix, so they invited Danish-born graphic designer, Emil Kozak, to share his ideas.  Using his life in sunny Barcelona as inspiration and influenced by the surf and skate culture, he brings two new designs to life.

Jill Crawford

I do my best to credit artists and photographers on my blog, but there's plenty of room for error and I must apologize to the talented Jill Crawford.  A few weeks ago, in my post, 'Feeling Blue', I was too quick to assume that the power pole graphic was this wall decal from Ferm Living, but it is a 100% original piece of art hand-painted on that lovely blue wall.  My apologies, Jill!

Great Dane!

Dress Up Your Walls

Danish company, Ferm Living,  just branched out to the U.S. last year and we just celebrated their one year anniversary at this month's Designer's Networking Group at Vanessa De Vargas' Turquoise showroom.  Ferm offers wallpaper and wall stickers in a variety of delightful patterns and whimsical silhouettes.  

 

The stickers are great for minimal commitment (i.e. apartment dwellers) because they leave no residue.  They can add instant drama to any space; small areas such hallways, entries, and stairways.  The products are also washable, so even kitchens and bathrooms are fair game.
