Last Friday was packed with all kinds of mid-century fun! I first met with Birds of Ohio, a great resource for vintage textiles and patterns. (They also happen to live in an Eichler home and I was thrilled to get a private tour!) You can see images of their home on Design*Sponge, under 'Sneak Peeks'.
They also clued me in on a great vintage shop, Out of Vogue, and a Julius Shulman exhibit (April 5-July 19) at the Fullerton Museum.
No one has an eye quite like Shulman. He perfectly captured the idealism of the 1950's through his lense. Most of the photos in this exhibit were from a housing development designed by A. Quincy Jones, called the Forever homes. The houses could easily be confused with Joseph Eichler homes, since Jones was an architect for Eichler, before building his own tract. I took a driving tour after I left the museum, and sad to say, the Forever homes need some tlc. Some are in decent condition, but many of the owners clearly don't realize that they are living in a mid-century gem and the neighborhood, although it is near a vibrant area of Fullerton, is not all that desirable.
With a bit of investment and some design savvy buyers, could this be as popular as the Eichler tracts in the near future? Be sure to check out the Forever Fullerton exhibit before July 19th to see the homes in their original glory!
